Connie Weaver, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of Foods & Nutrition at Purdue University. She is a leading researcher in the areas of mineral availability, calcium metabolism and bone health and has published over 200 research articles. In 2000, she became Director of a National Institutes of Health funded Botanical Center to study dietary supplements containing polyphenolics for age-related diseases. She was also a member of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board Panel to develop new recommendations for requirements for calcium and related minerals. Dr. Weaver previously served as President of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences and was appointed to the 2005 U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. Dr. Weaver received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in food science and human nutrition from Oregon State University. She completed a Ph.D. in food science and human nutrition at Florida State University and holds minors in chemistry and plant physiology.
